From the moment you arrive in Mongolia, you'll be immersed in the raw beauty and rugged landscapes of this remote wilderness. After a thorough safety briefing in Ulaanbaatar, the vibrant capital city, you'll embark on an epic journey through some of Mongolia's most iconic destinations.

Itinerary

You will be picked up from the airport and then taken to the hotel. Touch down in Ulaanbaatar, where the modern world meets ancient traditions. As you step into the city, the anticipation of open roads and endless horizons begins to stir.

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel. If you choose, you can skip it. The city tour starts with a visit to the Central Square, known as Chinggis Khaan Square or Sukhbaatar Square. Next, explore the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, where exhibits like the Golden Monument of Chinggis Khaan and archaeological discoveries from the Hunnu/Xiongnu Empire, Mongol Empire, and other dynasties await. Enjoy some shopping at a local mall. In the afternoon, attend a safety briefing at the garage.

About 250 km will be covered today. The adventure begins from mountainous terrain and gradually transitions into meadow and steppe. Along the way, tourists refuel in Bayan Önjüül Soum and then stop over in the nearby base of Zorgol Mountain. Today’s journey ends upon arriving at Baga Gazriin Chuluu.

After exploring the ancient monastery ruins and nearby areas on foot, set out on a 220 km drive. Departing through a small canyon, traverse the steppe, and after about 100 km, take a break at a small soum to refuel and rest. Continue on paved roads before transitioning to rugged paths, arriving at Tsagaan Suvarga.

Day 6: Khongor Sand Dunes (220 km)

Covering 220 km, the adventure will follow a small canyon through the rocky canyon of the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains. Traverse the Gobi and steppe, refuel in Bayandalai Soum, rest briefly, and continue to Khongor Sand Dunes to end the day’s travel.

Travel approximately 150 km on rugged terrain, soon exiting the gorge and crossing the steppe to reach Bulgan Soum. You will stop to refuel and visit the famous Flaming Cliffs of Bayanzag. After exploring the area, you will arrive at the tourist camp, concluding the day’s journey.

In the morning, traverse about 160 km of rugged terrain. After some initial exploration, you will stop at Mandal-Ovoo Soum for fuel and a break. Then, you will cross the flat expanse known as Ongiin Tal to arrive at Ongi Monastery, marking the end of the day’s travel.

Cover approximately 300 km of rugged roads. Transition gradually from the Gobi region to the Khangai (Meadow) region, navigating high mountains, forests, waterfalls, and river crossings, offering numerous adventures amidst natural beauty.

Spend the day unwinding in the soothing waters of Tsenkher Hot Springs, allowing your body to recover and rejuvenate.

Travel approximately 198 km on rugged roads. Journey through mountainous, forested, and water-rich scenic areas to reach the sand dunes located in the heart of the Khangai region.

Traverse about 285 km on a combination of rugged and paved roads. Travel along the base of Khustai Mountains and follow the Tuul River, arriving in Ulaanbaatar to conclude the overland journey.

Spend the day immersing yourself in Mongolian culture. Visit local attractions, enjoy traditional performances, and partake in a farewell party to celebrate the journey’s completion.

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your departure, bringing your Mongolian adventure to a close.
