Into the Heart of the Altai

Setting off into the high mountains. On horseback and on foot we traverse alpine meadows and cross the first mountain pass at 2,850 m a.s.l. Breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and deep valleys. Overnight in traditional gers by a mountain lake.

Khongor Sand Dunes

Khongor Sand Dunes

The approx. 220 km long ride leads through a small canyon, the rocky gorge of the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains.

We cross parts of the Gobi, wide steppes, refuel in Bayandalai Soum, take a short break there and end the day’s journey at the famous and impressive singing dunes of Khongorin-Els.

Try climbing these over 200-meter-high sand mountains … you should have good fitness and a hydration backpack ;-)
Bayanzag

Bayanzag

Once again, there is off-road riding at its finest, approx. 150 km in total.

Steppe, gorges and tracks delight the heart of an enduro rider.

In Bulgan Soum, we take a break, then we reach the fascinating Flaming Cliffs. These are known for a wonderful evening play of colors at sunset, which makes the rock formations glow in fiery red.
Arvaikheer

Arvaikheer

On this day, we first ride through seemingly endless steppe until the landscape changes and becomes hillier.

Hidden in this mountainous terrain are the ruins of the Ongiin Khiid monastery, which we visit.

Then we continue first through the mountains, until the terrain becomes flatter and wider again.

We spend the night in Arvaikheer, capital of the Övörkhangai Province, where after the dusty days there is comfortable relaxation for body and mind. We have earned it ;-)
Orkhon Waterfall

Orkhon Waterfall

Today, Mongolia shows its incredibly varied landscape; in some places, one might think it could also be Iceland.

The onward journey runs through the Orkhon Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is strongly shaped by volcanism.

The day’s destination is the Orkhon Waterfall, which also does not fulfill the typical “Mongolia” cliché.
Ugii Lake

Ugii Lake

Slowly, the route leads us back towards Ulaanbaatar and directly to Ugii Lake, a freshwater lake with rich birdlife.

Here too, you can beautifully let your soul unwind and refresh yourself with a swim in the lake.
Khustai National Park

Khustai National Park

The final days begin; from a riding perspective, it becomes more relaxed and, thanks to the training of the past days, very easy-going.

We visit Khustai National Park, home of the wild horses, Przewalski horses/Takhi. Here, in the evening and early morning, we observe the different animal species that live here completely freely.
Back to Ulaanbaatar

Back to Ulaanbaatar

The last riding day leads us mostly over bumpy, also asphalted roads. We ride along the foot of the Khustai Mountains, follow the Tuul River towards Ulaanbaatar. Past beautiful rock formations, mountains and wide landscapes, until we reach the capital again and the tour ends here.
Farewell Party

Farewell Party

On the last day, there is once again the opportunity to take a stroll through the city, buy a souvenir or purchase a fine piece for your loved one at home in a typical Mongolian cashmere shop.

In the afternoon, we visit a traditional theater that brings us closer to old Mongolian culture, and afterwards we let the last evening come to an end with a cozy farewell party.
Departure

Departure

The last day, departure. We get up very early, bring you to the airport and with that, the Mongolia adventure really comes to an end.
